Statement of Action: Transforming Food Systems for People, Nature and Climate

The Brazilian Coalition on Climate, Forests and Agriculture is a network comprising more than 370 representatives from the private and financial sectors, the academia and civil society, working towards the harmonious, sustainable, and inclusive use of land in the country, reconciling agricultural production and environmental conservation. As we consider food systems as being a vital component of the equation for sustainable development, we endorse the COP 28 Non-State Actors Call to Action: “Transforming food systems for people, nature and climate”.

Our network understands that food security and the fight against hunger are essential in promoting Brazil’s prosperity as one of the most biodiverse and largest food-producing countries in the world. The Coalition puts its efforts into the promotion of sustainable agriculture, improvement of socio-environmental criteria in granting rural credit, development of an action plan for healthy food and technology sharing aimed at decarbonizing the production systems of small producers, among others.

The Coalition had a key role in drafting the Brazilian NDC in 2015. We stand for increasing climate ambition – which, in Brazil, will largely come from tackling deforestation and decarbonizing food systems.
