Established in 2023, the Task Force for Fighting Deforestation aims to create expertise that will provide support to public policies for command-and-control against environmental crimes.

Originally called Deforestation Data TF, the group’s main purpose was to provide transparency to statistics on biome devastation. In 2021, its specialists published a mapping of how the private sector uses deforestation data in the country.

Before that, in 2020, the TF signed the document “Actions for Prompt Deforestation Halt”, where it listed six high-impact measures that would lead to a reduction, in a few months, of the Amazon Forest destruction. Among them are the resumption and intensification of enforcement against environmental crimes and the suspension of the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) that affects public forests.
