Geologist by training and specialized in energy planning and international relations, she stood out in shaping the Coalition’s international agenda in 2024
Karen Oliveira, Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs at TNC Brazil, will assume the role of co-facilitator of the Brazilian Coalition starting in January. The announcement was made this Thursday (5th) during the network’s 2nd Plenary Session of 2024.
Karen will succeed Renata Piazzon, General Director of the Arapyaú Institute, and will serve alongside co-facilitator Fernando Sampaio, Sustainability Director at the Brazilian Beef Exporters Association (Abiec).
Karen is a member of the Executive Group of the Coalition, a body responsible for implementing decisions from the Strategic Group and approving the network’s technical materials. She also played a key role in shaping the coalition’s international agenda throughout the year, including participation in the New York Climate Week and the UN conferences on Biodiversity (COP 16) in October and Climate (COP 29) the following month.
With a degree in Geology, a master’s in Environmental Energy Planning from Coppe/UFRJ, and a PhD in International Relations from PUC-Rio, Karen brings over 20 years of experience in areas such as international cooperation, sustainable infrastructure development, climate agenda, conservation unit management, and strengthening environmental governance.
At TNC Brazil, where she has worked for nearly a decade, Karen has coordinated projects related to reducing deforestation in Pará, environmental compensation for protected areas and traditional communities, and sustainable infrastructure in the Amazon region.
