The implementation of the Brazilian carbon market is the main topic discussed by the Carbon Markets Task Force. Since 2018, when it was created, the task force has published a document analyzing the potential of carbon credit transactions and has examined bills and a provisional measure dedicated to the subject. In its analysis of these texts, the movement identified points it considers non-negotiable, such as the integration of regulated and voluntary markets, as well as the guarantee of environmental safeguards.
The task force also analyzed how Brazilian climate policy could elevate Brazil to leadership positions on the international stage. In webinars, the group discussed topics such as bilateral relations with the United States and the trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union.
In addition, to support government negotiators, the task force led the preparation of a report with recommendations for the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow — COP 26, in 2021. These included the regulation of carbon markets and increased investment in nature-based services, such as reducing deforestation and promoting low-carbon agriculture.
