Paulo Pianez, Global Director of Sustainability and Government Relations at MBRF, is the new co-facilitator of the Brazilian Coalition. He holds a degree in Economics from Unicamp, with a specialization in Quality and Statistics from the same institution, and has built his career in major organizations in the private and financial sectors.

Before joining MBRF – a global food giant formed from the merger between Marfrig and BRF – Pianez spent a decade as Director of Sustainability and Social Responsibility at Grupo Carrefour Brasil. With previous experience at BankBoston and Banco Santander, he has spent the last two decades developing robust and feasible solutions to reconcile socio-environmental responsibility with economic development across productive sectors.

Pianez’s selection as co-facilitator of the Coalition was discussed across several governance bodies within the network before being approved, in December 2025, by its main council, the Strategic Group (GE). He has now begun his two-year term, succeeding agronomist Fernando Sampaio, who had held the position since January 2024.

Within the Coalition’s governance structure, the co-facilitators are primarily responsible for integrating the members of the GE – which sets the network’s strategic guidelines – and for guiding the Executive Coordination, the team responsible for managing all of the network’s activities.

The Coalition has two co-facilitators: one representing the private sector – now Pianez – and the other representing civil society organizations. The latter role has been held, since January 2025, by Karen Oliveira, Director of Public Policy and Government Relations at The Nature Conservancy Brazil (TNC). The co-facilitators’ terms are staggered to ensure continuity in the network’s leadership.
